I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Pizza Day in Canada

Did you know that pineapple pizza was not invented in Hawaii but by a Greek restaurant owner in Canada?!  And for a pizza with pepperoni, sweet pepper, mushroom and cheese anywhere else you would likely ask for The Works, Supreme or Loaded. But in Canada it's Montreal-style All-Dressed Pizza!
Happy Canada Day!
I put together four different pizzas here. This pizza dough recipe makes enough for everyone to dress their own pizza to their liking. Even those who just like cheese!

Ingredients for crust:
4 cups flour (all purpose, bread or 00)
2 tsps salt
2  1/4 tsp instant yeast
13 oz room temperature water

Combine flour, salt and yeast in a large bowl. Add the water and use your hands to combine fully. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
After that turn the dough out onto the counter and cut into 4 portions.
Put each portion in a covered bowl or plastic ziplock bag and refrigerate 2-4 days.
When you are ready to bake the pizzas remove the dough from the fridge for 2 hours prior to baking. Then with oiled hands take a ball and form it into an individual pizza, round or elongated.
I have garlic growing in the garden so I plucked some garlic scapes and lightly sautéed them in olive oil just enough to soften a bit and they turned a brighter green. And ready to go on a pizza!
Pineapple Pizza:
pizza sauce
mozzarella
cappicolla
fresh pineapple
red pepper
garlic scapes
drizzle olive oil
Mediterranean Pizza:
pizza sauce
mozzarella
sliced mushrooms
chopped kale
red pepper
garlic scapes
crumbled feta
drizzle olive oil
Ready for the oven, preheated to 500°F, and use a pizza stone if you've got one.
Bake at 500°F for 12-14 minutes

All Dressed (or toute garnie) Pizza:
tomato sauce
mozzarella
pepperoni
mushrooms
red pepper
chopped kale
garlic scape
drizzle olive oil
Cheese Pizza (boring!):
pizza sauce
mozzarella cheese
drizzle olive oil
What would you put on your pizza?

  1. Ironically enough I am from the area of the Greek Restaurant that put pineapple pizza on the menus. It is located in Chatham, Ontario
