I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Italian Sausage Buns

Like a sloppy joe but Italian, maybe a Sloppy Giuseppe?

1 lb Italian sausage
2 cups tomato sauce
1/4 cup red wine
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsps fresh chopped parsley

Garlic butter:
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
2 tsps dry oregano
1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley
1 tsp minced garlic

4 hot dog buns or soft 6" sub buns
8 mozzarella slices plus extra to top buns

Chopped radicchio and parsley to garnish

Start by browning the sausage meat in a large saucepan. Add tomato sauce and red wine and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and add salt and parsley.

Mix the butter, oregano, parsley and garlic together and slather on all sides of the buns. Broil until lightly golden, flip and toast the opposite sides.

Remove buns from oven and line with cheese slices, 2 to each bun. Spoon in the filling and sit them in a parchment lined 7 X 11" baking dish. Top with more cheese and broil to bubbling.

Garnish with chopped radicchio and parsley and serve.

Serves 4-6

Makes 4 if you want your buns loaded with filling, 6 if you just want a reasonable amount ;)
