I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Hearty Italian Meat Sauce

I prefer a nice tomato sauce with my pasta, but hubby wants meat! So meat it is.
One half pound each of beef, pork and veal.

1  1/2 lb trio (beef, pork, veal)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup shredded carrot
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tsps fennel seeds rubbed
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup red wine
2 tbsps balsamic vinegar
1/2 tsp citrus zest (lemon, orange)
1/2 tsp hot pepper flakes
1/4 cup sliced black olives
1 - 28 oz can tomatoes
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp salt

In a heavy bottomed large pot, brown meat in olive oil. Add celery, carrot, onion, fennel seed and garlic.

Add red wine and balsamic and cook 15 minutes uncovered.

Add the remaining ingredients and continue cooking on medium low heat 1 - 1  1/2 hours, stirring occasionally, and it'll go from this...

to this

Serve over your favourite pasta with lots of parmesan cheese.
