I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Coffee Rubbed Beef

Yes, coffee.
It's great for making a nice dark roast (haha dark roast!)

2 tbsps instant coffee granules
2 tbsps brown sugar
1 tsp smoked (or regular) paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp allspice
1 tsp savory
1 tsp coarse salt
1 tsp black pepper
olive oil

I used a 2-3 lb cross rib roast here, but you could use this rub on any roast you like or even steak.

Coat your roast in olive oil and rub it in.  Next mix all the rub ingredients together and rub that into the meat too.
Refrigerate at least 2 hours so the flavours have time to get to know each other. (Ok...corny)
Anyways,  remove the meat from the fridge 1 hour before cooking.
Throw some sliced onions into the pan and roast in a 425 F oven for 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 F for 45 - 50 minutes for this size roast.
Let rest 10 or so minutes before slicing.

Whisk some beef broth, red wine and flour or cornstarch together and deglaze your pan for a deep rich gravy. Salt and pepper to taste.
