I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too! Welcome!

Mocha Sour Cream Cake

Start with a cake mix, but this cake is nice and rich.  You won't be able to tell it from bakery.

For the cake you'll need:

1 - 515 g box Swiss chocolate cake
1 cup brewed, cooled coffee
1/2 cup sour cream
1/3 cup canola or veg oil
3 large eggs
2 tsp instant coffee granules

And for the frosting:

1/4 cup butter, room temperature
3 cups icing sugar
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp instant coffee granules
1 tbsp cocoa

Mix the cake ingredients together and pour into prepared pans.  This recipe made 3  8-inch round cakes.  (I froze one for later use)
Bake your cakes as directed on the cake box, then cool.

I love these cake pans with the little arm that loosens the cake.  They're pretty old.  I wonder if they still make them?

Anyways, for the frosting, cream butter and sour cream together. Gradually add the icing sugar and the rest of the ingredients. Spread on your cake and decorate with chocolate sprinkles and some more instant coffee if desired.
