I started this blog so my daughters could find all of our family favourite recipes in one place. It has actually grown into more than just the family favourites but also other recipes we've tried out in our kitchen. I don't like to fill up the post with alot of chatter. Sometimes there's a little story to tell, but usually I like to get right to the point. So this is for them, but hope you find some recipes that you like as well. I'll be sharing a lot of recipes, and along the way you'll find some crafty things and maybe some helpful hints too!

Roasted Garlic Mushrooms

These mushrooms are just like the ones you'd get in a good steakhouse.

I found the original recipe here 


but made a little change in it. Next time you BBQ a steak, try these on the side.

Roasted Garlic Mushrooms

1 lb Mushrooms cremini or white, halved lengthwise if large
3 T. Capers, whole
3 Large garlic cloves, minced
2 T. Olive oil
3 T. butter, cut into pieces
2 t. fresh lemon juice
¼ C. dry red wine
¼ C. Flat-leaf parsley, chopped

Preheat oven to 450°F. Put capers and oil in a 1 ½ to 2-qt shallow baking dish. 

Add in the garlic,  wine and ½ teaspoon salt and several grinds of pepper 

Toss in the mushrooms and mix to coat.
Top with butter and roast, stirring occasionally, until mushrooms are tender and golden and bubbly garlic sauce forms below, 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and parsley. 

Serve immediately, with crusty bread on the side.

(You may substitute  white wine for red wine, or even red balsamic vinegar.  I like it best with red wine.  A teaspoon of dry oregano goes well too.)

Bacon Tomato Penne

Too bad you don't have a scratch 'n sniff screen because this stuff smells 
sooooooo goood!

This is a combination of recipes with a couple of my own additions. Boil the penne and set aside.  Fry the bacon, but don't overdo it.  Add the onion and fry until translucent.

 Then toss in the garlic and sundried tomatoes.  Mix together with the penne.

You could dig in right now.........


Add shredded mozzarella and swiss cheeses, canned tomatoes and parmesan and bake it.

8 oz. penne  

1/3 lb. roughly chopped bacon
1 small onion, chopped
3 chopped garlic
2 tbsps. slivered sundried tomatoes
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup shredded swiss
1/2 cup canned tomatoes
2 tbsps. parmesan, plus more for serving.

Bake 350F for 15-20 minutes. Serves 3

This goes fast, you might want to double the recipe.

Tail 'o the Pup - BBQ Pork Ribs

If you ever get a chance to go to Lake Placid N.Y. make your way down rte. 86 to Ray Brook and visit Tail 'O the Pup. 

 We first found out about this place on a PBS food show and decided to drop in.  Best pulled pork sandwich EVER!

You can also take home some of their sauce.  Our oldest daughter recently picked some up to give to Dad for Father's Day.  Yummy ribs.  Soak the pork ribs in cola for a few hours. Then bring to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes.  Heat up the BBQ and grill slowly, basting with the sauce at least 1 hour.  Serve with extra sauce. And homemade wine.

Have a bunch of serviettes ready, too.

Best Mom Hands Down

So, this is my first attempt at blogging.  Hope you like it.

My Mom is going to be 85 this weekend.  She is kind of hard to buy for, but this is what I came up with. (This works for Mother's Day too)

I picked up some stuff for her hands....emery boards, cute rubber gloves (from the dollar store), hand cream and soap from Bath & Body Works and a gift certificate for a manicure.

Then I put everything in a basket and wrapped it all up.  See the hands....

I traced everyone's hand in the family and personalized them with jewelry, bandaids and nailpolish so she'll recognize each one.

Kind of cute, eh?
